How To Use Celery In A NutriBullet

A Nutribullet will blitz those celery sticks to juice in seconds. All it takes is 2-3 sticks, or about 2-3 cups of celery, a little bit of water to help it blend, and you have simple, crisp and refreshing, celery juice in no time.

Your celery juice or celery smoothie can be as simple as just celery, but many love to mix it with a little bit of fruit such as apple.

How to make Celery Juice

So you’ve blended your celery stalks up into a green smoothie. Without a juicer, how can you turn a celery smoothie into celery juice?

Well, you need to strain out the pulp of course.

Luckily, there are a variety of strainers to choose from. From a simple sieve, cheesecloth, or even a handy nut milk bag, there’s plenty of room to get creative.

Once you’ve strained out that pulp, you’ll be left with some lovely green juice. Time to enjoy all those benefits of celery.

Why Celery of All Vegetables?

Love it or hate it, a Marmite of vegetables, celery has long been considered a low-calorie weight-loss food. While it may not contain many calories it certainly does contain a whole host of vitalising health benefits.

Antioxidants

Celery has been shown to contain a wide range of antioxidant compounds. Antioxidants act to protect your body from free radicals.

What are free radicals? Free radicals are unpaired electrons and ions which have a high affinity to react with other molecules in your body which causes damage to cells, blood vessels, and organs.

Anti-Inflammatory

Celery has been shown to be rich in phytonutrient antioxidants that contain anti-inflammatory properties.

Inflammation is linked to many health conditions and illnesses. Being able to find anti-inflammatory properties in such a simple, common, vegetable has massive potential for much-needed relief of very uncomfortable symptoms.

A study published in Planta Medica has shown that a compound in celery, known as luteolin, may be able to inhibit the production of COX-2 in your body. COX-2 is an enzyme that triggers inflammation.

Good Source Vitamins And Minerals

Celery is 95% water, so it is not exactly chock full of vitamins and minerals.
That said, it is still a good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin K, Vitamin C, and some B vitamins. It also contains minerals such as Potassium and Folate.

In the case of Vitamin K, celery is a particularly good source. One cup of celery provides up to 30% of your recommended daily intake of Vitamin K.

Alkaline

With a pH of between 5.7 and 6.0, celery is naturally alkaline. That makes it a perfect snack for people following an alkaline diet.

Supports Digestion

Celery is relatively high in fibre. Fibre is well known for it’s benefits to your digestive system. One cup of celery provides about 6% of your recommended daily fibre intake.

Fibre helps to keep your bowel movements regular, reduce constipation, and keep you gut healthy.

Your good gut bacteria relies on healthy fibre intake in order to live. They to help to regulate your immune system, produce 70% of your serotonin, and help to digest your food for you.

A compound in celery, known as apiuman, has been shown to help with stomach ulcers, improve stomach lining, and modulate stomach secretions.

Low Glycemic Index

Celery is low on the glycemic index, which means that it has a slow and steady effect on your blood sugar levels.

Hydration

Celery is 95% water. This makes it an excellent choice of a snack if you are dehydrated.

Perfect for warm sunny days to compliment your water intake.

How Much Celery Should I Drink Per Day?

The celery juice trend is all about a glass of blended celery juice each day. Mainly first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

It takes about 2-3 stalks of celery to make a glass of fresh celery juice. So 2-3 sticks per day should be just about right!

Many people, such as the medical medium Anthony William, recommend blending a whole bunch of celery and drinking it as straight celery juice each day. Although that can be quite a large quantity and difficult to consume.

Can I make Celery Juice Ahead Of Time Or The Night Before?

As with most foodstuff, fresh is always best.

Fresh is not only best for flavour, it is also best because the food has less time to go off. When you blend or juice something, while preparing the food for yourself to eat, you are also making it more edible for unwanted bacteria which will make it go off quicker.

While fresh is absolutely best, it might not always be possible to blend it up if you are planning to have your celery juice on the go or at work. Maybe you’re just trying to be super prepared.

If you store your celery juice or smoothie in a sealed container in your fridge, it should still be perfectly edible for up to 24 hours after blending or juicing.

You could maybe stretch this out for longer if you are to store it in a freezer but do also consider how long it will take to defrost and where you plan to defrost it.
