Juicing is a wonderful thing.
A fantastic way to get an extra-large dose of nutrition, vitamins and minerals into your diet…
But do you ever worry there’s not enough protein?
Well I think it depends, some people thrive on low protein diets but I’m not one of them, I need the protein to keep me feeling full and full of energy throughout the day.
So I bet you’re wondering, like I was, if you can add protein powder straight into your juice, well you can! There are loads of great vegan protein powders you can add straight into your juice as well as whey proteins if that’s more your thing.
They mix in nicely and if you’re careful with your flavours can be great additions, just avoid strawberry cheesecake flavors or anything weird like that!
But that brings us to the next point, what is the best protein powder you can add to your juice?
I’ve reviewed all my favourites below so you can order your favorite from Amazon. Check out the list below for the quick rundown.

1. Top Choice – Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein
- Cold Pressed
- High in Omega 3
- Organic
- BPA Free packaging
Hemp protein is a fantastic source, it’s full of all the right amino acids plus it’s high in Omega 3’s which is fantastic because these are most commonly found in oily fish.
The taste is the natural nuttiness of hemp seeds which goes nice with juice and doesn’t bring any strange artificial taste to it. You’ll also like it because it’s cold-pressed, a nice familiar process, although I’m not sure putting it through your juicer will result in the same thing!
It doesn’t mix as well in a shaker so you’ll need a blender for these protein shakes if this is your choice but well worth it.
The hemp is grown in Canada sustainably using non-GMO practices, organic, healthy and vegan. What more could you want from the best protein powder for juicing?
2. Best For Fitness – Vega Sport Premium Vanilla Vegan Protein
- Pea Protein
- Vanilla flavour
- Gluten Free
Vanilla isn’t necessarily the best flavour to have with your juice but it’s a lot better than chocolate! Plus it can bring a little sweetness to an otherwise bitter green juice so it’s no bad thing.
This is primarily a pea-based protein but it’s also made from organic pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and alfalfa which is in the legume family so more similar to a bean.
It mixes well with juice which is good if you don’t have a blender and it’s got a nice big serving of 30g of protein so on the higher end which is ideal if it’s your main source of daily protein.
3. Best For Gut Health – Pure Food: Plant-Based Protein Powder with Probiotics
- Few Ingredients
- Pea based protein
- Natural Vanilla flavour
I love the minimalism of this protein powder, there are only 8 ingredients, all of which are real things like pea protein, brown rice protein, not just big chemical names that you don’t understand.
Even the flavouring comes from organic vanilla being one of the ingredients, so even that is great because it means there are no excess chemical processes involved. You’ll love that it goes alongside the completely natural process of juicing where all you’re getting is the vegetables.
But I chose this one to add to the list because of the extra probiotics it adds which work hard to keep your gut happy. And when you’re doing a juice cleanse your gut is going through some serious change so it’s important to keep it healthy and happy and a probiotic is the easiest way you can do this.
A great choice of protein powder for juicing.
4. Grain Free Choice – Peak Performance Grain Free Plant Based Protein Powder
- Pea Protein
- Rice Free
- 18g protein
- Great refund policy
This is a great powder because you get all the important amino acids you need and a reasonable 18g of protein per serving. I know some people can’t handle a lot of protein in a sitting so this ideal.
It’s grain-free and rice-free so only nut, seed and pea-based protein are used inside, plus it’s low in sugar. But you’ll love that they’re giving something back, I was surprised to see that for every bottle of powder you purchase they supply a child at risk of malnutrition with a whole year worth of vitamins.
Their refund is also good, if you don’t like it you get in contact and they give you your money back, no justifying it or sending photos or anything like that.
5. Top Non-Vegan Choice – NAKED WHEY 1LB 100% Grass-Fed Unflavored
- Whey Protein
- 1 Ingredient Only
- Made from grass-fed cows milk
This is a protein powder made from cow’s milk, so if you’re a vegan or vegetarian it’s not for you, but if like me you aren’t then it’s ideal.
Only made from milk with no additives whatsoever and made from a single ingredient that is organic grass-fed cows milk they collect from small open pasture farms in northern California. So if you care about animal welfare this is a great choice.
But more to that it’s high quality too, plenty of amino acids, a nice range of vitamins and minerals and it’s unflavoured so goes nicely with juice. Unflavoured is a bit strange but if you have a favourite juice recipe you’re adding it too you’ll be fine.
How Do You Add Protein Powder To Juice?
Well, whatever you do don’t try and put the protein powder through the juicer! Protein powder will just get stuck and clump together causing it to jam and leaving you with a big mess to try and clean up.
No, you’re going to want to add in the protein powder after you’ve finished making the juice, you can mix it in the same way you would with water and do it in a protein shaker or you could use a personal blender to make sure it’s properly mixed in and maybe even make more of a smoothie adding in some banana or avocado.
From experience stirring it in isn’t going to do a thing so you’re much better off getting some equipment and mixing it properly. There’s nothing worse than taking a drink of protein shake only to get a pocket of dry powder popping in your mouth.
What Juice Has The Most Protein?
Of all the things you put in your juicer, it’s the leafy greens that have the highest protein in them (unless you make nut milk but that’s different).
Kale and spinach, in particular, are the highest in protein, not compared to meat but compared to other fruits and vegetables these are the main ones.
That said a 16 oz glass of mean green juice only has 3g of protein in it! That’s about the same amount of protein you get from a single chicken nugget…
So it seems likely you’re going to need a bit extra, now there are loads of great plant-based protein sources like nuts and beans but if you want to get extra protein into your juice then vegan protein powder is going to be the best way to do it.
Can You Use Protein Powder On A Juice Fast?
You certainly can! And Joe Cross himself even recommends doing so! He says you should get about 15-20 grams extra protein per day if you’re doing a fast of 15 days or longer. Now for less time than that, it’s up to you.
If you feel like you need some extra protein then fire on and give some protein powder a go, but if you feel fine then no one is forcing you! You have complete control and can do what feels right.

If you’re looking for the ideal recipe to add protein powder too then look no further than the mean green juice. It’s got all the right flavours and is big enough that a scoop of protein powder goes in without disrupting the taste too much.
